The Weakerthans at Webster Hall

I almost didn’t make it into Webster Hall last night to see the Weakerthans. I forgot my ID and had to convince the bouncer that yes, I am definitely older than 16. Thankfully that worked otherwise I might have tried to scale the walls batman-style.

Oh man, what a show. The band played a fantastic mix of old and new material, rocking numbers and sad slow songs. If there’s one thing I can say for John K. Samson, the man knows how to write a sad song. I’m not always up for sing along shows but the crowd was there with Samson for almost every word and instead of being annoying it lent the whole night a feeling of collective joy. On a side note, if you ever need you’re faith in humanity reaffirmed go see a Weakerthans show. The crowd was probably the most polite, enthusiastic
and friendly I’ve ever seen.
