The Ramones – Mondo Bizarro (For fans of The Clash, The Sex Pistols, The Misfits)

If you like punk rock, you fucking know The Ramones… shit, everybody knows who The Ramones are.  Chances are you probably have their greatest hits album Mania and may have their original Self Titled album as well (and if you don’t, go get it. It’s one of the most influential and greatest albums in punk rock).  Unfortunately that’s the extent of one of the greatest rock bands to ever grace our sound waves.

Most bands start to fizzle out and losing their edge later in their careers, many just becoming a shadow of their former selves by the 4th or 5th album.  As great as they were, The Ramones weren’t immune to this as even they had a few stagnant albums in their discography.  However in 1992, they released their 12th studio album Mondo Bizarro and it completely shreds… and it shreds hard.

Mondo Bizarro contains 13 punk tunes (14 if you’re counting the bouns track cover of Spiderman) and are some of the greatest The Ramones have ever written.  The choruses are catchy, the music is aggressive, and the band tries something different on a number of songs… the greatest example being Joey’s vocal range on Cabbie’s On Crack or the slower ballad of Poison Heart (which was written by Dee Dee Ramone, even though he was no longer in the band at this point).

Does it top their Self Titled?  Of course not, and if you don’t have that go listen to that one first… but no Ramones or punk fan should overlook Mondo Bizarro.
